Dr. Martin Rodriguez Biography

Dr. Martin Rodriguez was born in Brownsville, Texas, the youngest of 5 siblings, son of Nestor Rodriguez and Guadalupe Barrera.  Martin graduated from Homer Hanna High School and two weeks later he was enduring basic training at Fort Jackson South Carolina.  Soon after completing his Advance Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Rucker Alabama, Martin was assigned to the 160th Special Operation Aviation Regiment (SOAR) stationed at Fort Campbell, KY as an AH6 (Little Bird) Crew Chief. While assigned to the 160th Martin performed in numerous trainings/missions with Special Operation Groups worldwide.  He was honorably discharged after serving 4 years active duty, during this time Martin received various awards to include: The Army Accommodation Medal.

Upon his return home in 1998, Martin became a member of the Army Reserves 370th Transportation Company stationed in Brownsville, Texas where he would serve for 13 years, to include one deployment to Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In 1999, Martin initiated his education at The University of Texas at Brownsville/Texas Southmost College (UTB/TSC) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a Minor in Criminal Justice.  During his time at UTB/TSC, Martin participated in the Veterans Affairs work-study program where he assisted other veterans with educational benefits to include the variation of GI Bills and Hazlewood.  After completing his BA, Martin began working as a full-time employee with UTB/TSC, he went on to earn a Master degree in Educational Technology and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Educational Technology.  During his time at UTB/TSC, UTB and finally UTRGV, Martin worked in various offices to include Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Upward Bound Math and Science, Adjunct Professor for College of Education and Director for the Military and Veterans Success Center.  Dr. Martin Rodriguez is currently serving as Director of Cameron County Veterans Service Office where he plans to uphold his strong conviction to “Serve Those Who Have Served.”
