Why is it important to save?

It’s important to start saving money for many reasons!

Saving money is a valuable habit and skill to learn. By learning how to set goals and make decisions about your money, you are preparing yourself for success now and in the future.

But what does it mean to save?

Saving means putting an amount of money aside regularly (weekly/monthly). This money is not meant to be used right away. Saving can help you buy something in the future that you might not have the money for right now. Also, having savings can always help in case of an emergency.

How can we save money?

A reward chart is a great way to teach children the basics of saving money. It helps them understand the concept of earning and saving money and encourages them to set short-term and long-term goals. The reward chart should start off with a simple goal such as “Wash the dishes” and then a list of rewards for achieving that goal throughout a period of time. For example, when the child saves $10, they can get a toy, a book, or a movie with their earned money. This helps them understand that saving money can be rewarding and encourages them to continue saving.

We have created two “Saving Make Cents” reward charts for you to use with your children to encourage them to save money. The first chart is ready for use pre-filled with chores, while the second one is customizable to your liking. Both reward charts will help your children learn the importance of saving while having fun!
