When a voter’s status shows as “Active” with the Voter Registrar, it means that their information (address, name spelling, date of birth, driver’s license, etc.) is current.

A voter’s status may change to “Suspense” for different reasons. Being on Suspense does not disqualify a voter from the voting process, however they will be instructed to complete an address confirmation card before voting.

Often, the reason is because of a discrepancy with an address. For example, when a voter moves within the same county but doesn’t update their new address with the Voter Registrar, they may be put on the Suspense List. Every two years, the state issues new Voter Registration Certificates to all active voters; if the certificate is returned by the Postal Service with a “non-deliverable” tag, the registrar will have to confirm that the voter still lives at that address. That voter’s status then goes into Suspense.

In order to rectify the situation and get their status back to “Active”, the voter will need to contact the Voter Registrar’s Office and update their information. The following options will enable a voter to do so:

• Filling out an address confirmation card
• Filling out a voter registration application
• At a polling location, address confirmation/ voter registration forms are available to make changes
• A hand-written note explaining the change and signed by the voter

** All of these items must be signed by the voter and the Voter Registrar’s Office can only accept hardcopies.

Cuando el estado de un votante se muestra como “Activo” con el Registro de Votantes, significa que su información (dirección, ortografía del nombre, fecha de nacimiento, licencia de conducir, etc.) está actualizada.

El estado de un votante puede cambiar a “Suspenso” por diferentes razones. Estar en suspenso no descalifica a un votante del proceso de votación, sin embargo, se le indicará que complete una tarjeta de confirmación de dirección antes de votar.

A menudo, la razón se debe a una discrepancia con una dirección. Por ejemplo, cuando un votante se muda dentro del mismo condado pero no actualiza su nueva dirección con el Registro de Votantes, pueden ser puestos en la Lista de Suspenso. Cada dos años, el estado emite nuevos certificados de registro de votantes a todos los votantes activos; si el certificado es devuelto por el Servicio Postal con una etiqueta de “no entregable”, el registrador tendrá que confirmar que el votante aún vive en esa dirección. El estado de ese votante entra en suspenso.

Para rectificar la situación y recuperar su estado a “Activo”, el votante deberá comunicarse con la Oficina del Registro Electoral y actualizar su información. Las siguientes opciones permitirán que un votante lo haga:

• Llenar una tarjeta de confirmación de dirección
• Llenar una solicitud de registro de votante
• En un lugar de votación, los formularios de confirmación de dirección / registro de votantes están disponibles para hacer cambios
• Una nota escrita a mano explicando el cambio y firmada por el votante

 

** Todos estos artículos deben ser firmados por el votante y la Oficina del Registro Electoral solo puede aceptar copias impresas.
