Scofflaw Program
On August 5th, 2010 the Cameron County Commissioner’s Court adopted the Scofflaw Program to be implemented by and through the Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office.
The Texas Transportation Code 702.003 and 502.010, allows the Tax Assessor-Collector to deny the registration of your vehicle if the Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office receives information from a participating court that you have a fine fee or tax that is past due or that you have failed to appear in connection with a complaint, citation, information, or indictment in a court. An additional $20.00 fee may also be imposed. Before the vehicle may be registered or re-registered, you must obtain clearance from the corresponding court. Clearance the court may give you after you have taken care of the money owed is subject to the further payment of the additional $20.00 fee imposed by the Commissioners’ Court.
